A common assumption is that learning Hindi means learning to read and write Devanagari script from day one, but a large share of learners — particularly heritage speakers who grew up hearing Hindi at home without formal instruction — actually want spoken fluency first and literacy later, or not at all. Postpositions do the job English handles with prepositions, appearing after the noun instead of before it.
