ACT Prep Course

A common mistake in ACT prep is treating it as a slower-paced SAT, when the two tests reward somewhat different things. The ACT's four core sections — English, Math, Reading, and Science — run on tighter time-per-question limits than most students expect, especially Science, which despite its name mostly tests data interpretation and reading graphs and experimental results rather than recalled science content.

Students who study science facts to prepare for it are usually solving the wrong problem; what actually moves the needle is practicing how to scan a passage's figures and conflicting-viewpoint setups quickly under time pressure. English and Math move fast too — Math includes some content the SAT covers less often, such as trigonometry, while English tests grammar and rhetorical skill in a format closer to editing than composing.

A tutor working with you 1:1 can diagnose whether a wrong answer on any given section reflects a content gap, a pacing problem, or a pattern of misreading question stems — something a scored practice test alone can't tell you, since it shows you got it wrong without showing why. The optional Writing section, when taken, is scored separately from the composite and isn't required by most colleges anymore, so it's worth confirming with your tutor whether your target schools actually need it before spending prep time there.

Because many colleges will superscore the ACT much like the SAT, combining your best section results across sittings, some students plan a diagnostic sitting followed by a focused second attempt — a strategy worth discussing early if a retake fits your timeline.
