The digital SAT is module-adaptive: the first module of Reading and Writing sets the difficulty of the second module, and the same happens within Math. That structure changes how prep should work, since early questions carry disproportionate weight — a rough start locks you into an easier, lower-ceiling second module regardless of how well you recover.

Students who prep by grinding full-length practice tests in isolation often miss this; a tutor who watches you work through a first module in real time and flags where you're second-guessing yourself is doing something a scored practice test alone can't. Reading and Writing on the digital SAT is built around short, single-passage questions rather than the longer passages of the old paper test, which rewards close reading of dense but brief text over stamina for long ones — a trainable skill that's rarely taught directly.

Math allows a calculator throughout, which shifts some of the challenge from computation to recognizing which approach is fastest, since the digital format is timed tighter per question than most students expect. A tutor working through your actual missed questions with you can usually tell within a session or two whether a wrong answer reflects a content gap, a pacing problem, or a careless-error pattern, and adjust accordingly rather than repeating a generic drill set.

Because many colleges that accept the SAT will superscore — combining your best section results across sittings — some students plan a diagnostic attempt followed by a more targeted second sitting, which is worth mapping out with your tutor if a retake is realistic for your timeline.
